L’Għawdxija is a family-run business that started producing jams and preserves in 2005. It first started producing these products using the family’s own home-grown fruits. However, to keep up with popular demand, it had to start purchasing fruits from local Gozitan farmers. Bringing new products to the market, L’Għawdxija focuses on non-traditional jams such as pomegranate conserve, prickly pear jam and fig conserve. It also produces a range of chutneys and a variety of different sauces like plum chutney, apricot chutney, fig chutney amongst others. Its chutneys and sauces make the perfect accompaniment to any savoury dish.
Nowadays L’Għawdxija also produces sweet traditional pastries such as honey rings, using old recipes that have been passed on from one generation to the next. Its interest in gastronomy did not stop here! It now also produces savoury frozen pastries like, pie dough (locally known as għaġina sfirjulata) and pea and cheese cakes, locally referred to as pastizzi.
L’Għawdxija also dries figs using the family ancestors' methods. These can be found on the market as tin taċ-ċappa and tin imqadded. It also caters for parties, both savoury finger food and sweet items. Cakes vary from gateaux to those decorated with sugar paste, depending on the theme.
All the above mentioned products are entirely manufactured by L'Ghawdxija Genuine Food Products, and hence the name. Its motto is to revive yesterday’s traditional products with a twist, to ensure that its clients get fresh and genuine food.
